2016 Summer Olympics (Rio Olympics)
The bulletin is flooded with the trendiest topic these days and that is Rio Olympics which is a major worldwide multi-sport event. The 2016 summer Olympics is around the corner with a motto of “A new world,” and the host city is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil itself. Yes, Rio de Janeiro is a lot more than just being the only best place for samba, parades and birds. This year, Rio is going to host the biggest sports festival, the Olympics. With over 207 nations participating in the event, there are over 11,551 athletes participating in this Olympics this year. Up to 28 sports have been introduced in over 306 events. This Olympics is known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad or Rio 2016. 33 venues have been chosen for the sporting events to take place. Started since August 5, the event has gained immense popularity amongst the people from all over the world. Athlete’s oath was taken by Robert Scheidt. The official; emblem for the Olympics 2016 has got its designs by the Brazilian agency Tatil Design and it got unveiled on 31st December, 2010.
The game is becoming quite amusing day by day. The list of winners is increasing with a pace. According to the medal tally, USA has topped the category with over 94 medals in its pockets. Great Britain has won 55 which is a tie with China. Italy is in the charts with 23 medals in hand, where Australia has won 26 medals. India has won 2 medals where Canada has got 14 medals in total. Russia has won 42 medals which is quite a number. USA has passed over 1,000 gold-medal score in Olympics.
Wrestler Erica Wiebs has won Canada’s 4th gold medal by defeating Kazakhstan’s Guzel Manyurova in 75-kilogram final of freestyle performance. This isn’t over yet. Sakshi Malik has won India its first bronze medal in wrestling against Aisuluu Ynybekova of Kyrgyzstan in the 58-kilogram category. Another win for India is with the badminton queen PV Sindhu winning silver medal at the women’s badminton match against Spain’s Carolina Marin with a score of 21-19.
Meanwhile, Usain Bolt wins a gold medal in 200m race, making him the fastest man on earth again. Bolt ran for about 19.78 seconds to defeat Canada’s Andre de Grasse and France’s Christophe Lemaitre making his 8th medal win at an Olympics. Usain Bolt has also won the 4×100-meter relay for gold. According to Bolt, this was his final race with his 9th gold medal. He has completed the triple-triple: gold in the 100, 200 and now this 4×100-meter relay in three following Olympic Games. Alongside this, Allyson Felix has aided the U.S. women’s 4×100-meter relay team to a mesmerizing performance and has won them a gold medal in the final race. She is declared as the first ever woman to win five track and field gold medals which is a record. But the saddest part is the U.S. men’s 4×100-meter relay team has lost the game with their hopes down. The U.S. women’s water polo team has won its second straight Olympic gold medal after beating Italy with a score of 12-5 in the final match. It seems like U.S. is completely ahead of every other nation in Rio Olympics 2016.
USA has beaten Spain with a score of 82-75 gracefully this time and has set their goals for winning the men’s Olympic basketball title for the 15th time. Klay Thompson has scored 22 points. Now, USA will bathe on the basketball grounds against Serbia in the final match which is going to be held on Sunday, 21st August. The USA guard Kevin Durant seemed to be very happy with the performers of the players and hopes to win one more gold for the team.
Meanwhile, Jones beat Eva Calvo Gomez and won taekwondo’s -57 kg position. Jones started with a kickass performance with two kicks in the meantime of just ten seconds and got a lead with 6-0 after the first round. Jones is now regarded as a double Olympic champion by defending her 2012 title and has made 22 golds for team GB in the Olympics 2016.
Wales’ Elinor Barker has won a gold medal in cycling followed by Owain Doull grabbing the same in cycling. Barker has won the country its seventh Olympic medal position after Doull’s win and two silvers for swimmer Jazz Carlin. Team GB’s Laura Trott has got herself a record third medal in the game.
This seems not to stop at any cost. Boxer Misael Rodriguez went on to become a nation’s hero after winning his country’s first medal in Rio 2016. Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia has beaten his biggest competitor Lin Dan of China in the semi-final to reach the Olympic badminton men’s singles final. The semi-final was highly anticipated. Lee Chong Wei has won his fourth match point in his finale. He won 15-21 21-11 22-20 in a typical 79-minute game.
Beside this, Germany has managed to beat Sweden to grab up the women’s football gold with a lead of 2-1 in Rio. The game between these two teams was equally amazing as their performances. Dzsenifer Marozsan managed to finish the game by putting Germany ahead of the opponent team where Sweden’s Linda Sembrant couldn’t stop them from taking another goal at last. The women’s football event was played at only six Olympic Games and Germany has won the title for about four times after winning bronze in 2000, 2004, and 2008.
There is much more to the Rio Olympics with a number of players waiting for their win. People from all across the globe are excited to the game. It is yet to see which country manages to stay on the top of the medal tally. The closing ceremony of summer Olympics is on 21st August 2016.
